Astrid St Aubyn and Mia Woodford are organising The Cura Ball to raise as much money as possible towards finding a cure.
Astrid’s husband Mike tragically died in 2002, aged only 43.
Eight months later, their youngest daughter, Isabella, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and, the following year, Astrid quite by chance spotted the same symptoms in Mia Woodford’s eldest son Will.
Both Will and Isabella face multiple daily insulin injections and blood measurement tests for the rest of their lives – or until a cure is found – simply to stay alive.
Insulin is a life support system (for which we are very grateful) – but it is not a cure.
Sadly for Mike, not only was there no cure for his cancer, but no life support system either.
Astrid and Mia are determined that for our children, and for other sufferers of either diabetes or cancer, it will not always be like this.
The Proceeds of The Cura Ball will be divided 50/50 between the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Cancer Research UK
